June 2007
Dear Family & Friends,
We here in Florida are in the midst of our bad weather, HOT &- HUMID! But on a whole we are blessed here in the land of sunshine!
Paul is in Honduras as I sit and write this letter. He is very busy with the Feeding project, but he has had a lot of help. Bayside Community Church sent 8 men & 3 women down for 9 days. They arrived on Friday the 1st of June and the team of 11 departed early Saturday morning in 3 four wheel drive diesel trucks, fully loaded with everything from food to tools and bug spray. It was 50 miles of paved road, then dirt road for another 20 miles, then beyond the grid with 15 miles of mud to the Village of Ireona. Their daily routine was up at 6:3O a.m. for prayer, a short Bible study and beans & rice for breakfast before they began the hard physical labor.
The women began the feeding program, directing 20 local women in feeding the children of the village 5 nutritious breakfasts a week. The program was put into effect for 2 of the days they were there. They also distributed worm medicine to the children and the adults that needed it, plus eyeglasses to the adults who couldn't read their Bibles.
The Feeding pavilion was completed by mid week and took 9 yards of hand-mixed concrete.
The local men were a great help and the job would have been impossible without them.
The group started back to La Ceiba on Thursday around 11:00 a.m. for another 6 hours of hard driving; thankfully to a hotel with hot showers. It was well received by all! The next day was a day of fun for them. They did a mountain cable ride from platforms through the trees, sometimes as high as 100 feet. They also shopped and later that night all met for dinner in a great restaurant. Early the next morning they departed for the States.
It was a great group of people and they are very hard workers and love the Lord! Some of them will be coming back for the September/October term to install a roof in Ireona and a Church in Spamatepine, which is a Village nearby. Calvary Chapel Bradenton will have a group going along with Pastor Ray who will be teaching the local Pastors. Some of the men will be helping with the construction of Pastors' homes and a roof for one of the Churches. We also have a group from Syracuse, New York that is coming in October to help build and teach in La Ceiba. Please keep this work and all involved in prayer for all of these things.
Now to get to some personal things that has happened to us this past month. Our Benham Family Cruise occurred the end of May. We had a total of 55 people in attendance, coming from Georgia, Arizona and Michigan. We had four glorious days at sea. What a wonderful way to have a reunion! We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary and were blessed beyond our highest hopes & dreams.
Thank you for remembering to keep us and L.W.C.A. in your prayers!
Love in Jesus,
Paul & Joyce Benham
