February 2008 Newsletter
Dear Family & Friends,
Happy Valentines Day! We do love you.
Since we wrote to you in October, we, like you have gone through Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays along with the bringing of the New Year of 2008. While the days ahead look dark we have to keep looking up to Him, the Author and the Finisher of our Faith and Trust Him!
In January, I (Joyce) went to Sedona, Arizona for a week's retreat with two of my granddaughters at a lovely retreat center called Sunset Chateau in the heart of Sedona. Angela works there and her kind employer treated us to a week free in the lovely place along with yummy breakfasts. We were so blessed to be together and I was blessed to think that they would want to spend that kind of time with their grandmother.
We saw the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon and all of the wonderful sights that Sedona offers, plus all the good food! I was blessed to have lunch with Zeb, Angela's brother, and their mom, Cheryl. It was a time of refreshing and catching up with each other on the years that we have missed.
Paul decided to make a trip to Honduras during the time frame that I would be gone (we had been hearing about the “great fares” that Spirit Airlines were offering so he wanted to “go for it”). He got tickets for himself and another friend, Levi Troyer. The tickets were cheap but you had to fly in the middle of the night to San Pedro Sula, which isn't a good idea! Oh well, that is how we learn isn't it? In spite of all of the unfavorable conditions, Lindbergh was there to meet them. They were able to buy the food for two months for the Feeding Program and drive the eight hours over horrendous roads to Iriona. The villagers were surprised to see them because the roads were so bad from all the rain they've had since October. The sister in charge said they had been out of food for two days. Then they drove the five hours back to La Ceiba. Needless to say they were really tired at the end of the day.
Because of the short time of the visit, they finished up things at the “Home Base”. They visited Jorge Siryi, a Christian brother that owns a Ferreteria (a hardware and lumber business). He told the story of him and a group of Christian brothers who went to Cuba to spread the Gospel. Because they were there only with a Tourist Visa, they were thrown into jail for three days and during that time they had a Revival!!! Glory to God, He is in charge! Jorge is the brother that we have sent “Growing Kid's God's Way” to and he said it changed the way their family was heading. He's so grateful to God for Paul coming into his life and his family's too.
Please pray for the team of 16 people going to Honduras the first week of May from Bayside Community Church; they have really bonded with the people there. We are also trying to have a medical outreach at the same time.
